That's why in step 4, the 7605 mAh current capacity is rated as 100% healthy, even though I've in fact lost just over 5% of the original capacity. The listed battery capacity of this model (an 11-inch iPad Pro 2021) is 7538 mAh, but the original capacity of my iPad's particular battery was actually 8,022 mAh. This is why electronics companies give battery size as a "typical capacity," as they can't guarantee a specific one. The manufacturing process means some cells of otherwise identical specs can carry a greater or lesser charge. The reason this is the case is that no two batteries are alike. This is the calculation that an iPhone makes when you look at the Battery Health setting in iOS, and is more accurate than the MaximumCapacityPercent one because it accounts for the original capacity of your specific iPad's battery. The second is its mAh capacity at the time the data was captured.ĭivide the NominalChargeCapacity figure by the MaximumFCC figure, and the result will be your current maximum battery capacity as a percentage of what it was when new. Now we need to work out a more accurate estimation. Also any new matured bees will emerge through the openings and contact the dust placed there. Because of the obvious risks associated with treating carpenter bee holes in eaves or soffits, many homeowners will contract with a licensed pest control company to provide this service.ĭo not plug the holes immediately! The bees should be able to pass freely through the nest entrance where they will contact the dust and distribute it inside the tunnels. Launder any contaminated clothing immediately (do not mix with other household laundry items) and take a shower to remove and insecticidal dust. It is advisable to wear protective clothing, gloves, goggles and a respirator or dust mask because the insecticidal dust will frequently become airborne and may drop down onto you as you dust the tunnel. If you must treat during the daytime, use a pyrethrum spray or wasp and hornet spray to knock down any bees flying about. The bees cannot see the red light, but you should be able to see the openings. Use a flashlight, over which a piece of red cellophane has been taped. To avoid possible stings, treat the area at night. This is best accomplished by using a duster that will puff the dust up into the tunnel and coat the sides. Locate the wood in which the bees are active and apply an insecticidal dust directly into nest openings. Newly developed adult carpenter bees emerge in August, feed on nectar and return to the tunnels to over-winter. The larvae that hatch from the eggs complete their development and pupate. There are typically 6 to 8 chambers created by the female. An egg is deposited on the food supply and each chamber is sealed off. Each chamber is provisioned with a portion of "bee bread", a mixture of pollen and regurgitated nectar, which serves as food for the larvae. They mate in the spring and set about to clean out and enlarge the old tunnels or to excavate new ones as brood chambers for their young. Young adult male and female bees hibernate in the tunnels during the winter. Bees prefer to attack wood that is greater than two inches thick. When the tunnel is about 1 inch deep, the bee turns at right angles to the initial hole and tunnels with the grain of the wood. This hole is usually against the grain of the wood. They usually attack unpainted objects such as doors, windowsills, roof eaves, shingles, railings, telephone poles, and sometimes wooden lawn furniture.Ī carpenter bee begins her nest by drilling a nearly perfectly round entrance hole (about 1/2 inch diameter) into the wood. They excavate the tunnels for shelter and as chambers in which to rear their young. Additionally, they will commonly defecate on the wall or other item directly below the opening causing stains.Ĭarpenter bees do not eat wood. While the damage to wood from the drilling activities of a single bee is slight, the subsequent year's broods will expand the tunnel through branching activities and may cause considerable structural damage. The female however, is capable of stinging but seldom does. The males may even hover a short distance from people causing unnecessary panic. A common behavior of the males is to approach people if they move quickly or wave a hand in the air. ![]() They hover in the vicinity of the nest and will dart after any other flying insect that ventures into their territory. It is the male carpenter bee, which is most often noticed. There is only one species of the large carpenter bees, Xylocopa virginica, which is encountered in Pennsylvania. If you see a number of large bees hovering near the eaves of the house or drilling in wood, you have carpenter bees. By contrast, the abdomen of bumblebees is fully clothed with hairs, many of them yellow in color. ![]() Most of the top of the abdomen of carpenter bees is without hairs and is shiny black in color. They construct their nests in trees or in frame buildings. ![]() Their nests are underground and they spend most of their time traveling between the nest and the flowers from which they obtain food.Ĭarpenter bees resemble bumblebees in both size and appearance, but are not social insects. Bumblebees are large social bees 1/2 to 1 inch long, with black and yellow or, rarely, black and orange body markings. You don't give enough details on what you shoot, so it is tough to give a recommendation. ![]() All IF-design lenses change focal length with focal distance (focus breathing) which makes exact framing and composition quite a chore (consider a macro rail). If you shoot a lot from the tripod, then the lack of a tripod collar on the 105 will be a constant nuisance. The 105 appears to be the best compromise if you can only afford one lens. For portraits, 85 on a DX camera would be best, 105 would still do if you mostly shoot head shots even 85 can be a tad long for full body shots (i.e., you have to stand back farther). For insects, I would go with the 150 or 180, but those might be too long for portraits and plants don't know what you mean by products so can't make a recommendation there. From the spread of applications you mention I would say that there isn't one that fits all. Well, with focal length comes working distance - important when trying to fit lighting in there and also to not scare the insects by getting too close. Mainly interested in sharpness and contrast, not so much focal length. Turn Off Other Apps That May Use OBS Virtual Camera. That’s it! ![]() ![]() Toxin exposure typically affects the endocrine system by increasing estrogen production or estrogen activity. In the presence of free radicals, estrogenic activity and estrogen metabolism are influenced. Through studies on the anti-cancer effects of DIM, researchers found that DIM accumulates in thyroid tissue and modulates thyroid proliferative disease.ĭoes this mean that DIM may help reduce your risk for thyroid disease? Well, the jury is still out, but there is potential for more research in this area. Are you exposed to plastics, conventional meat and dairy, or conventional household products on a regular basis?Īll of these have one thing in common - they contain chemicals that may harm human cells and promote free radicals in the body. Now, turning the spotlight back onto DIM, this dietary supplement may prove beneficial in reducing the risk of developing certain thyroid diseases, such as goiters and cancer. Eventually, thyroid cells can no longer make thyroid hormone, and thyroid hormone levels fall, leading to hypothyroidism. Hashimoto's is the most common, where the immune system attacks the thyroid gland, causing chronic inflammation. Surprisingly, most thyroid problems in the United States are due to autoimmune diseases-primarily Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease. Other possible reasons for more autoimmunity in women include the hormonal shifts that occur throughout a woman's reproductive life, including puberty, pregnancy, postpartum, and menopause. Therefore, there is a greater risk of mutations in women (whose chromosomes are XX) than in men (XY). ![]() This is multifactorial, but one of the leading theories is that the X chromosome carries more immune-related genes. Women are more susceptible to autoimmune diseases compared to men. ![]() We don't fully know why women are more likely to experience thyroid issues, but one explanation lies in autoimmunity. This suggests that there is potentially an estrogenic component to thyroid problems. And what is more, one in eight women will have a thyroid problem in her life. Indeed, women are five to eight times more likely to have a thyroid problem than men. But one of the more intriguing things about thyroid diseases is that they disproportionally favor women. So far, research has yet to confirm a relationship between DIM and the thyroid. Still, there is potential for further research in these subject areas. No human studies can confirm its effectiveness for the above issues. Decreasing hot flash severity in menopause. While its role is unclear, some research suggests that DIM may also stop cancer cell growth in the prostate gland. When 2-hydroxyestrone is increased and 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone is suppressed, it may have anti-tumor effects in women with breast cancer.Īnother potential use for DIM is that it may convert testosterone to estrogen by suppressing the aromatase enzyme. It may also diminish the effects of a more potent estrogen (16 alpha -hydroxyestrone), associated with certain cancers, including breast and uterine cancer. For this reason, (and because eating too many cruciferous vegetables can adversely affect your GI tract and thyroid), DIM supplements are preferable to eating too many cruciferous vegetables daily.Ĭurrent research suggests that DIM affects estrogen levels by stimulating the production of 2-hydroxyestrone, a beneficial form of this hormone. However, at this point, we do not know how these factors affect DIM concentrations. Several factors influence the amount of DIM produced, including the type of cruciferous vegetable consumed, its age, and how it is stored and prepared. Goitrogens are naturally occurring plant-based compounds that can interfere with normal thyroid functioning. Cruciferous veggies may also have a goitrogenic effect on the thyroid gland, meaning they may cause the thyroid gland to enlarge (or become a goiter). While these veggies have many health-promoting benefits, they can also cause problems for the gut, such as bloating. While this relationship is still needing further scientific exploration, current research suggests that indole-3-carbinol (and subsequently DIM) is what may be behind these findings.Ī person must consume many cruciferous vegetables to likely get the positive effects of DIM. Observational studies show that eating a diet rich in cruciferous vegetables may help balance estrogen levels and reduce your risk for certain cancers, including breast and prostate. When we eat leafy greens like broccoli or sprouts, stomach acid breaks down indole-3-carbinol to make DIM. Diindolylmethane (DIM) is a compound made in our digestive tract from the breakdown of cruciferous vegetables.
